Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

Welcome to the new school year and 6th grade at Walter C. Young!

My name is Jupeter Descargar and I will be your child's World History teacher.  I’m from Los Angeles, California and studied Global Economics at the University of California Santa Cruz and received my graduate degree in Political Science at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. I am looking forward to getting to know your child and help him/her progress throughout the year!  World History examines the cultures and history from around the world.  This year we will be studying the following topics:
  • Foundations of Social Studies
  • Origins of Cultures and Civilizations
  • Early Civilizations
  • Greek and Roman Civilizations
  • American and Asian Civilizations
I will do everything in my power this year to educate your child about World History.  In order for me to be successful, I feel that there needs to be a collaborative effort between the student, parents and myself.  In order to achieve this success, I feel that the student must:
  1. Pay attention and participate in class.
  2. Complete class work and homework assignments on time.
  3. Check class blog frequently and use the planner to record daily assignments, upcoming projects, quizzes, and tests.
  4. Make up all work that is missed due to absences.
  5. Ask for extra help when needed.
In order to achieve this success, I feel the parents must:
  1. Check planner and visit the class blog daily.
  2. Use Pinnacle Viewer to stay informed of your child’s grades.
  3. Be aware of Broward County School Board Policies.
  4. Encourage your child to develop good study habits as part of a nightly routine.
  5. Contact the teacher at any time with questions/problems through email at jupeter.descargar@browardschools.com or school phone number (754) 323-4500.
To support this success, I will:
  1. Maintain an organized and structured classroom.
  2. Provide students with clear expectations of classroom behavior and assignment requirements.
  3. Provide students with a variety of teaching methods throughout the school year.
  4. Update Pinnacle on a regular basis.
  5. Make myself available for parents/students through school email or phone contact.
